VOICE AND SPEECH


Speech disorders is a type of communication disorders where 'normal' speech is disrupted.

Hoarseness/ Change in voice is a common and benign symptom. However, the causes for hoarseness are many and in some cases, it can be the earliest sign of dangerous underlying disease. Hence it is crucial for the physician to refer to ENT / patients to seek ENT a referral for further evaluation and treatment in case of non-resolution of voice issues / laryngitis .

RED FLAG SIGNS IN VOICE:


Hoarseness lasting > 4 weeks,

Voice changes like raspy, strained, breathy, weak, higher or lower in pitch, inconsistent, fatigued, or shaky voice

Difficult breathing & Pain while speaking

Vocal professionals (singer, teacher, public speaker) who are unable to do their job
